History of the Chancellor Hotel San Francisco

The Chancellor Hotel San Francisco was built in 1914 and has remained a family-owned classic boutique hotel. The building itself maintains the old world look of a fine old hotel. The lobby, reception area, restaurant, bar area and guest rooms have been updated to blend the elegance of times gone by with the convenience and clean lines of contemporary design.

Location

The Chancellor is in a prime location for both tourists and business travelers. Public transit, including both Muni and the Powell-Hyde cable car, is right outside the lobby doors. Department and specialty store shopping is right around the corner. Great restaurant, night life and theatre experiences are within an easy walking distance.

Tourists

This is a very convenient hotel for those who want to see the sites of San Francisco. The Powell-Hyde cable car goes right by the hotel, right past Chinatown, over Nob Hill, past Lombard_Street - "the crookedist street" - and on to Fisherman's Wharf where boats depart for Sausalito, Tiburon and Alcatraz Island.

Business

Business travelers enjoy the central city location, the easily-available cabs, the nearby restaurants and the short walk to the financial district and convention sites such as the Moscone Convention Center and the Hilton and Marriott hotels.

Accommodations

All 137 rooms and suites were freshened and renovated in 2007 with contemporary décor. The rooms are European-sized, meaning they are not the spacious rooms and bathrooms you will find in an American-style hotel, but they are certainly comfortable for one or two guests.

The hotel often offers room specials. The special might be a discounted room rate or a package that includes discounted hotel meals or tickets to athletic events or local theaters.

The entire hotel is non-smoking for guest comfort.
