Mobile Food Carts
From LoveToKnow SanFrancisco
San Francisco is a city that's known for its food, but there's a new game in town: mobile food carts. Sure, food carts aren’t really a new idea, but they've become one of the hottest food trends in the City by the Bay (as well as other major cities around the country). What food carts should you check out?
Mobile Food Carts in San Francisco
San Francisco has many food carts around town, and they've become some of the city's most popular eating establishments. How do these modern carts differ from the "roach coaches" that you might be used to? For starters, these new mobile carts are known for selling some of the best gourmet food the city has to offer. Opening a restaurant is very expensive, and often a potential restaurateur won't be able to secure the capital to jump into such a large business venture. What's a passionate chef to do in a floundering economy? Open a food cart, of course!
Finding a good mobile food cart can be just as difficult as finding a good restaurant. Remember that the entire process is subjective, so one person's favorite place may cause you to run for the hills. Fortunately the food at most food carts is relatively inexpensive, so you can experiment with as many as you like to discover your own favorites. Just remember - a restaurant reviewer's rule is to eat at a place three times before passing final judgment, so make sure you allow for a bad night.
Whether you're vegan or vegetarian, love spicy food or hate it, there's a mobile food cart somewhere in San Francisco that you'll love.
Bike Basket Pies
Bike Basket Pies has an original idea in the business - they bring the food to you! A new favorite of the Mission District, bike baker Natalie delivers rustic, handmade pies all over the neighborhood by peddle power. Her pies come in an assortment of lovely flavors, such as berry with candied lemon, blueberry-mango-coconut, mushroom-leek and potato-spinach-cheddar. Some of the pies can be made vegan, so be sure to ask! You can also follow this "cart" on Twitter.
The Magic Curry Kart
Another Mission District staple, the Magic Curry Kart really is a cart - and a very popular one at that. Serving up some of the best curry in San Francisco, you can find it around Linda and 19th. For more up to the moment information, you can follow the Magic Curry Kart on Twitter as well.
Crème Brulee Cart
Do you love crème brulee? Who doesn't? The Crème Brulee Cart, which hangs out around Dolores Park, serves up the city's best torched desserts for only $3 (as of 2009)! Offering a wide variety of flavors, this cart has gained in popularity over the past year. Keep track of specials and deals by following the Crème Brulee Cart on Twitter.
Spencer on the Go
If you love French food, then you'll love Spencer on the Go. This mobile bistro is known for its excellent French fare, at prices anyone can afford. And guess what? You can follow them on Twitter as well.
